Where should we go from here?

Ok. School is starting! Back to the good ol' days!

So, new year, new resolution.

I wonder where would the board go from here. 2009 had finally passed. What would be the new goal for this year?

For now different members have different goals for the board. Some for our prefects' betterment. Some suited for certain prefects with certain responsibilities only. Some considered personal, others not to be known....

But still, there should be a goal stated publicly for the sake of our image.A goal acknowledged by all prefects. At least it will act as a basic guideline for all of the prefects, morning and afternoon to follow. If there is already a guideline, it should be stated in the roll-call everyday to ensure all of us understands it and follow it. Then, the goal will be achieved.

On my previous post I mentioned 'bout something called Mentor System. It would be my main concern for this year. As the government is pushing a ONE MALAYSIA philosophy, we also 'copied' the idea. We aim to unite all prefects, from all the five forms as a single, united board which works together to achieve goals. By bringing prefects closer together, the aim will be achieved. Consequently, the goals will be reached.

Mentor System would be the catalyst to provide an opportunity to bring prefects closer together. The main concept of the Mentor System is the cooperation of prefects in their duties. Rather than working individually, prefects work as small teams. Each team member will be working near each another. Each team will be lead by a team leader who monitors the performance of its members. There will be interaction among the team members. When a team member encounters a problem, the other members send help. The seniors in the team will guide and help their juniors when a problem is faced.

Besides that, there will be discussion sessions among the teams and problems or doubts will be shared and solved as a team. Teams will still be controlled by the AJKTs. Prefects have to send their reports to the chairman from Safety, Discipline and Environment. The Statistics are not involved because it is already a team in the file room. After a period of time, the team members will be shuffled. So, everyone would have a chance to work with different people as a team. Thus resulting in a foundation of a good relationship between prefects.

I hope everyone commit themselves in this system.

The accomplishment of this idea will be my personal goal for this year.

Welcome Note from Head Prefect

The Prefectorial Board of SMK Taman Connaught was Incorporated since then opening of our school in the year 1989. Our responsibility is to ensure smooth running of our school's discipline system and to provide assistance to teacher and fellow students.

For many generations, prefects of SMK Taman Connaught have responsibility carried out their duties to ensure a conducive and safe environment for all students studying here. The prefects of SMK Taman Connaught are the pillars of the school's discipline systems. With every single prefect devoting fully their time and energy for this school. It is a difficult task, however prefects of this school took this challenge and strive to make SMK Taman Connaught, truly a great school.

It is my duty now to write my first post to introduce our prefectorial board. We have come a long way in helping to shape this school till what it is today. Generations of prefects in our school have been passing down knowledge and experience to the younger generation of prefects. With the help of teacher advisers as well, SMK Taman Connaught prefects are poised to continue growing. Morning session prefects comprises all Form 3, 4, and 5 students only. Where as, afternoon session prefects consist of Remove, Form 1 and 2 students. Therefore, the schools system states that each session will be run differently with both having their own heads i.e. different head prefects, to run the prefectorial board of that particular session.

Our slogan has been our guideline towards being a well establish prefectorial board. With a simple term : BERANI, CEKAP, dan TEGAS!

BERANI (Bravery):
In other words, prefects of SMK Taman Connaught must have bravery within themselves to ensure the implementation of our school rules are followed and understood by the students accurately.

CEKAP (Sharp/ Well Informed) : Prefects of SMK Taman Connaught must be alert and be well informed of the surroundings and situation when conducting their duties.

TEGAS (Firm/Strict): All prefects must maintain their firmness at all times to ensure that as prefects and as a prefectorial board we are respected by students at all times.

For the year 2010, a group of trained EXCO prefects will lead the prefectorial board of this school. Those people comprise of

Lim Ben-Jie Head Prefect
NurShahida and Yap Yow Chun Assistant Head Prefects
Ch'ng Zirou and Yoon Yi Ning Secretary and Assistant Secretary
Hee Sze Min and Lee Shun Yan Treasure and Assistant Treasurer
Lee Chin Yung Head of Discipline
Edbert Chia Tat Ming Head of Safety
Shubashini Head of Cleanliness
See Woan Shian Head of Statistics

Each Head is required to be a secondary leader to each group and keep a watchful eye on their junior members progress and performances. As of January 2010, morning session prefects are a total of 90 and above. These 90+ prefects are tasked with controlling and being the watchdog of the school with a total of 1000+ students in the morning session alone. Positions and responsibilities among prefects are divided equally. With each prefect having a specific duty and position to carry out.

The prefectorial board is also tasked with handling many school and non-school related events. For example, training camps, annual dinners, school's sports day, orientation day, festive celebrations, and many more. Through this, prefects gain valuable experiences which is difficult to find elsewhere. Before ending this first post, I would like if everyone would continue to contribute to this blog whether you are a prefects or not. Students are encouraged to use the chat box beside to voice out any suggestions and comments to improve the school. To all new and upcoming prefects or to those who intend to join, I suggest that you make your first move now and try to get yourself into this prefectorial board. It will be an opportunity of a life time as you may not get this chance again once you are out of secondary school!

Finally to all other prefects of SMK Taman Connaught, keep up your good work and maintain our status at all times!! DO YOUR BEST!! I personally think that every prefect is capable of doing a fantastic job.

PREFECTS, prove to everyone that together as a team we are the best and most successful prefects!

New Beginning

The end of this year signifies a new beginning for all of us.

With a new leading party, everyone would be expecting something (
or nothing) out of them. I think setting up this blog is a good start. Bravo! (To those who contributed only)

As time passes by, opportunities to improve our school would be decreasing. We
(or they) don't have much time left as time flies faster than you think. I hope everyone (especially the leading party) will spend more time and energy to make our board and the school a better place to be. Change does not come by shouting mottoes. Work must be done. We can say that the board already has a lot of resources due to the commitment from the school administration, teachers, PIBG, our seniors, some from our own hands. But there will always be room for improvement. There are still weaknesses and problems for the board to fix.

But these problems will not be handled by the sole involvement of the leading party. Every prefect holds a certain responsibility. In order to suceed, EVERYBODY will have to work. Starting from the Mentor System.

A new dawn is breaking. As we had achieved our school vision, the
Sekolah Harapan Negara, we will now advance to a new standard. A new goal. For a new DECADE. SO,

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

berani, cekap dan tegas!
